Abstract

Initial teacher education faces the challenge of shifting from traditional lecture-based practices toward active methodologies that promote meaningful learning. This article presents a case study conducted at the “Pablo Livas” Normal School in Sabinas Hidalgo, Nuevo León, aimed at analyzing the implementation of gamification as a teaching strategy in the course Philosophy and Sociology of Education. A qualitative design with an interpretive approach was used, employing participant observation, checklists, and rubrics to assess the impact of the Kahoot platform on students’ motivation, participation, and conceptual understanding. Findings indicate that gamification enhanced sustained attention, collaborative interaction, and the appropriation of philosophical and sociological content, which is often perceived as abstract or disconnected from practice. Additionally, increased autonomy and the ability to relate theoretical concepts to teaching practice were observed. The study concludes that gamification is a relevant strategy to strengthen critical and reflective training in teacher education programs, provided it is integrated purposefully and aligned with the curricular goals of the New Mexican School.
