Human papillomavirus vaccination coverage among 15-year-old girls in Mexico: a comparative analysis with the Region of the Americas based on World Health Organization indicators

Introduction: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is the most effective strategy for preventing cervical cancer, a major cause of cancer-related morbidity and mortality among women worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) established a target of achieving 90% vaccination coverage among girls before 15 years of age.
Objective: To compare HPV vaccination coverage among 15-year-old girls in Mexico and the Region of the Americas between 2010 and 2024.
Methods: Descriptive and comparative ecological study based on secondary data obtained from the official WHO indicators platform.
Results: Differences in vaccination coverage and proximity to the international target are expected to be identified.
Conclusion: Continuous monitoring of vaccination coverage is essential to guide public health policies, strengthen national immunization programs, and accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem.
