High intellectual abilities are analyzed from a neuropsychological perspective. It is highlighted that they constitute a neurodivergence characterized by differences in brain cytoarchitecture and cognitive functioning, with implications for socio-emotional development. During childhood, intellectual superiority tends to coexist with socio-emotional immaturity, impacting asynchrony and difficulties related to the individual's adaptability. In adolescence, these differences tend to intensify through high cognitive complexity (dense interhemispheric connectivity), intrinsic motivation, and social isolation. In adulthood, divergent thinking, self-regulation, and challenges related to work become predominant. It is concluded that early identification and comprehensive cognitive-emotional interventions are central, proving key to well-being and the full development of talent.
