Models and challenges of organizational communication: a literature review for effective management in companies

The purpose of this article is to highlight the role of organizational communication in the performance and institutional culture of entities, based on a systematic review of 50 scientific articles published between 2017 and 2025 in the Science Direct, SciELO and Web of Science databases. It explains the analysis of topics such as internal communication, participative leadership, organizational culture, work performance, digital channels or communicational climate, focusing on educational, industrial or public sectors, among others. The results observed show how strategic, bidirectional communication helps to improve commitment, internal cohesion or operational efficiency, while informal communication, hierarchical verticality or lack of feedback lead to tensions, demotivation, etc.; as well as the integrating models, those that articulate ascending, descending and horizontal dimensions, or the introduction of ICTs or hybrid media. However, it should be pointed out that there are gaps in the professionalization of the area and in the construction of a series of contextualized frameworks for Latin America and in the type of communication carried out by organizational communication. Based on these reflections, we conclude that organizational communication establishes its role as a strategic function that favors human development and institutional sustainability in a world in continuous change.
