Abstract

The transition from high school to higher education represents a critical milestone in young people's academic and personal development. The objective of this case study was to evaluate the expectations towards university degrees among senior high school students at a private educational institution in Paraguay. The research adopted an interpretive paradigm with a qualitative approach, analyzing a sample of 50 students from technical and scientific tracks. Data were collected through a questionnaire structured around 31 variables and semi-structured interviews. Results reveal highly favorable expectations toward professionalization (means between 3.22 and 4.16), although significant economic and pedagogical barriers persist. It is concluded that it is imperative to systematically strengthen vocational guidance programs to optimize the transition and adaptation to university education.
