Abstract

The Peruvian highlands are a tourist and cultural area of great importance, driven by Lake Titicaca and by artisanal practices that express the identity of the communities. Totora reed craftsmanship is one of the most representative cultural expressions of the Uros people. The study aimed to determine its cultural value and analyze the perception of tourists who visit the Floating Islands of the Uros. A mixed approach was used: qualitatively, semi-structured interviews and participant observation were applied to local artisans, analyzed with Atlas.ti; quantitatively, Likert scale surveys were conducted with domestic and foreign tourists, evaluating experience, perception, satisfaction, and intention to recommend. The results show that totora reed craftsmanship is a living cultural heritage that preserves ancestral knowledge and strengthens the local economy. It is concluded that it transcends its material function, being key to the cultural identity of sustainable tourism.
